Litter Clean-up and Invasive Plants Removal
What: MLK Day of Service – Cooper River Park Litter Clean-up and Invasive Plants Removal.
A volunteer event for the entire family. Dress for the weather. You will be working around
thorny plants, so wear rugged clothing you won’t care too much if it gets stuck.
Bring garden pruners (for cutting invasives) and large screwdriver (for prying them away from
tree) or just grab a garbage bag and pick up trash along the shoreline. Volunteers will be
provided heavy-duty work gloves and plastic bags. Refreshments will be available.
Where: Haddon Township side of Cooper River Park-east of Cuthbert Blvd. (39°55’18.6″N
75°03’12.5″W). There is plenty of parking for school bus and others in gravel parking lot on
South Park Drive at base of Bradford Ave.
Why: Either pick up the trash that can harm area wildlife and just looks bad or cut-back the
invasive English ivy that is growing up on and killing many of the trees in the park and woods.
Invasive plants do not provide the food source and habitat the area’s wildlife depend on and
reduce plant diversity by crowding-out native species.
This is a joint effort led by the Riverkeepers Network. Volunteers must sign a waiver to participate (Scouts must have a parent/guardian complete the waiver).
