2020 Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
Monday, Jan. 20, 2020
8:30AM – 12:30 PM
Edison Woods Conservation Area
Litter Clean-up and Invasive Plants Removal
Waiver: A waiver will need to be signed by a responsible adult for all participants.
Address: Edison Elementary School, 205 Melrose Ave., Haddon Township, NJ
A volunteer event for Scouts, families, and friends to commemorate MLK’s vision of a “beloved community”.
Trash pick-up and invasive plant removal.
Dress for the weather. Work will be done around thorny plants, so rugged clothing you won’t care too much if it gets stuck is preferable.
Trash left in the local woods can harm area wildlife both in the woods and in the Edison Creek which flows into the Cooper River.
Invasive plants, such as English ivy, wraps around and kills many of the trees in the park.
Invasive plants negatively affect our forests, parks and open space, do not provide the food source and habitat the area’s wildlife depend-on, and reduce plant diversity by crowding-out native species.
The event sponsor, The Delaware Riverkeeper Network, will provide loaner gloves, hand wipes, and trash bags.
Please bring your own garden pruners and large, flat bladed screw driver for pulling vines away from trees.
More questions, leave a voice mail for the Troop at 856-617-HIKE or call Citizen Action Coordinator Fred Stine (856-816-8021).
See you there!
